Vacancy for Bookkeeper Divine Word Parish Office




Marley Grange Parish is currently recruiting a Bookkeeper. This role is offered initially on a one year fixed term / part-time basis, Monday – Wednesday for 12 hours per week (9am – 1pm).

Reporting to the Parish Priest, the duties include:

Providing a book-keeping service to Marley Grange Parish

  1. Maintaining and up-dating computerised accounts using Accounts IQ
  2. Producing quarterly reports for the Parish Finance Committee
  3. Assist the parish in reclaiming tax on donations
  4. Prepare and process payroll for staff members
  5. Other accounts duties


The successful candidate will have:

Robust book-keeping experience. A certificate in Accounting Technicians of Ireland (IATI) is desirable.

  • Knowledge and experience of Accounts IQ is also desirable
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team with excellent customer service skills.

 JOB PURPOSE:  Briefly describe the overall purpose or function of the job 
To provide book-keeping services for Marley Grange Parish.



FinancesPrepare and process payroll for parish staff members and ensure all relevant statutory deductions are made i.e. PAYE & PRSI. Other Finance related duties may include Weekly:

  • Manage the counting & banking of all monies received through church collections & donations


  • Enter and process all standing order donations from bank statements on Pastoral Management
  • Enter all invoices and payments for all suppliers on Accounts IQ
  • Enter, process and bank all Stole fees on Pastoral Management and Accounts IQ
  • Enter and process all other income on Pastoral Management and other expenditure on Accounts IQ
  • Enter and process all Common Fund, SHARE and Diocesan Collections for Diocesan Return
  • Reconcile all bank accounts


  • Stole fees returns
  1. 1.       Priest payment. 
  2. 2.       Stole return to the Common Fund

 Finance Committee:

  • Produce quarterly reports for Finance Committee to include the following:
  1. 1.       Income and Expenditure
  2. 2.       Trial balance
  3. 3.       Balance sheet
  4. 4.       Comparison figures with previous year and budget figures for year ahead

 (All above reports are available on Accounts IQ)

Easter and Christmas:

  • Preparation of Christmas and Easter post for distribution.
  • Enter, process and bank all returned Christmas and Easter Dues
  • Printing of Christmas and Easter dues acknowledgement letters from Pastoral Management


  • Tax Reclaim
  1. 1.       Assist in the preparation and distribution of tax reclaim forms
  2. 2.       Assist in updating Pastoral Management with returned tax reclaim forms.
  3. 3.       Asist in submitting tax reclaim to ROS (Revenue Online System)
  4. 4.       Prepare financial statement for Parishioners
  5. 5.       Preparation of annual acknowledgement letters


Ad Hoc Duties

  • In the event of other staff being employed in the parish, you will be responsible for recording time-keeping and work scheduling as agreed
  • Preparation of annual accounts for the Diocesan Finance Secretariat

 The above contains the main outline of duties. However it is inevitable that tasks may arise which may not fall within the remit of the above list of main duties.  Staff members are therefore required to respond with a flexible approach when ad hoc tasks arise which are not specifically covered in their job description. Should an additional responsibility become a regular part of a staff member’s job, the Job Description will be amended to reflect this.


 JOBHOLDER ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:  Identify the essential knowledge, skills and behaviours required. 
Knowledge (Education & Related Experience):

  • ·        At least 5 years previous administrative experience is required
  • ·        Robust book keeping experience is essential and a Certificate in
  •        Accounting Technicians of  Ireland (IATI) is desirable
  • ·        IT Literate – MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • ·        Database experience desired

Knowledge and experience of Accounts IQ is also desirable
