Choir – Senior

PARISH CHOIR

The choir meet each Thursday night at 7.30pm for rehearsal and sing a variety of modern and traditional material at the Vigil Mass on Saturday evening at 6pm.

The Parish choir was formed in 1998 with  8 members and since then has gone from strength to strength and now has a membership of over 20. It is a mixed choir which enjoys all aspects of sacred music and liturgical singing, particularly the Easter Triduum and the music for Christmas.

The choir have been extremely lucky to have had the leadership of very talented choir masters over the years. John Conlon, who started with a small group in 1998, worked with the choir to develop a  broad repertoire of music which has formed the basis  of a body of work that we still use today.

Edward Holden succeeded John in 2008 and brought with him his vast experience of liturgical music and composition, culminating in the Mass of The Divine Word which he wrote for the choir.  Edward took the choir to a new level with the music we produced. during this time. Ed studied organ with Dr John O’Keeffe and Dr Kerry Houston and composition with John Buckley and Martin O’Leary.  Ed was recently conferred with a PhD from NUI Maynooth. After Edward left to pursue further studies he was succeed by Niall Kinsella who was with us for a year before taking up an appointment with RTE. In September of 2015 we welcomed our new director, Judit Mate. Noramarie Noone

Judit Máté is a Hungarian-born organist currently studying and working in Ireland. Judit began her musical studies at the age of nine in a specialised class where she gained strong knowledge of music theory, music history, choir work and folk music through the Kodaly method.
